Why do beaten people say that cats can break their home and bring disaster

On my way back today, I saw a kitten and I brought back kindly, but my mother said that the cat would bring disaster, but I don’t believe that I was dead. My mother did not just hit me. Why is this cat? Is there really a disaster for kittens?
